Hello and welcome to the Haiku Live Podcast, where we take a little exploration into some abbreviated moments. Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry. It is traditionally focused on nature and captures a fleeting moment within the space of three lines and a 5-7-5 syllable count. In a world so overwhelmingly immersive, a haiku is a moment of respite. These haiku are mine, moments of life, thoughts in the ether. Welcome to episode twenty six. This is the fourth in the Puerto Rico series Grainy Sip not rye Exfoliation not spa Picnic on the beach It's been a long time since we picnicked on a beach, definitely pre kids, and probably in a howling gale. That's what windsurfers do. They chase the wind. We've never been afraid of a bit of wind, so when we found a beach entrance on the northern Puerto Rico coast, about an hour or so west of Dorado Beach, the strong easterly didn't phase us too much. We would just go and sit on the rocks. Those rocks are not South African rocks that are often large and flat, easy on the feet and made to spread out body and picnic basket. Puerto Rico rocks are not like that. Razor sharp, serrated limestone shards eroded into erratic contours makes not for a comfortable picnic spot. That, combined with the profusion of toilet bowl erosion architecture that shoots wave surges up in unpredictable spots, makes it all distinctly hazardous actually. So we move off the cliffs and stubbornly picnic in a fifteen knot sand assault. More memorable actually than all the other very lovely restaurant meals we enjoyed that Puerto Rico trip. They say life is no picnic. It's full of hardships and challenges. But with a little stubborn focus on getting the job done regardless, you build resilience and character. Sometimes the wind is pleasantly at your back. Sometimes it's a full frontal assault. But get out there. Shake as much sand as you can off that avocado sandwich and make some memories along the way.
