Hello and welcome to the Haiku Live Podcast, where we take a little exploration into some abbreviated moments. Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry. It is traditionally focused on nature and captures a fleeting moment within the space of three lines and a 5-7-5 syllable count. In a world so overwhelmingly immersive, a haiku is a moment of respite. These haiku are mine, moments of life, thoughts in the ether. This is the third in the Puerto Rico series. White morphing mass at nightfall glowing ember lined cloud or marshmallow. The thing about having a podcast that no one really listens to, that uses a piece of personal poetry to set the scene is that it is free to go anywhere. And this podcast certainly does freedom like a white morphing mass of cloud to stay, linger, cover the sun with dramatic pause, or move unhindered through the sky, throwing shade or comfort from above, or at least through your airpods. Freedom to be poetic or not nostalgic political sentimental Freedom to follow a whim, a memory the smoke of a campfire, weaving the scents of grilled meat, Oregon fir wood and diesel from the tugboats on the Columbia River gorge, spiraling towards the stars. Laughing at marshmallows, tossed into the burning flame, morph and burst in the embers. We do this over and over. It never gets old. Freedom to take a haiku written in Puerto Rico, watching the sun set behind a bank of swollen white cloud and let it morph into metaphor and memory.
